SCHOOL BUS RESCUE - 8 HOURS

This Class pertains to NFPA 1006, 2013 edition, Vehicle Rescue

While School bus incidents do not occur on a regular basis, first responders must be prepared to respond and assist in the extrication of occupants as required. School Bus rescue is an essential part of extrication, but courses are difficult to obtain and require the acquisition of a school bus. LETS will travel to the host agency and provide the needed resources for hosting departments to develop extrication skills and techniques on a school bus, using a combination of equipment (LETS provided & Host Agency provided). 

 

Course Objectives:     

  • Define a commercial vehicle 

  • Describe the Four types of school buses

  • Describe the Safety features of school bus design

  • Explain stabilization and resting positions of school buses after a collision

  • Describe weight categories and different types of cab construction

 

Skills Objectives:        

  • Stabilize School bus in different positions 

  • Gain access to a bus from the front window, side, rear and top of the bus

  • Use electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems as needed

 

Includes:

  • All instructor fees

  • Certificates of completion

  • Classroom props, videos and Visual aids

  • Handout materials

    • UN damaged School Bus for Extrication will be provided for each class

    • Extrication Equipment, Hydraulic, Electrical, Mechanical, Pneumatic

    • Support personnel, instructors
